Bakersfield, Calif.― There was nothing bitter about the rivalry when JAZZ™, Pacific Rose™, and Envy™ apples went stem-to-stem in a unique flavor-savoring competition hosted by noted author and producer Arleana Waller last Thursday night.

While Envy won top honors at an evening Waller designed to convey the value apples bring to many areas of a woman’s life, all three brands enjoyed prominence and polish.

Our news

All apples in Washington state are experiencing poor packouts due to the heat last August. Many Gala packers are reporting 15 boxes of apples per bin, so we are actually faring better at 15-18 packs per bin at Crane and McDougall.

Jazz: 18% down; 147,000 decrease for Oppy.

Pac Rose: 8% down;  43,000 decrease for Oppy.

Envy: 16% down; 32,000 decrease for Oppy.

Our news

While we have experienced no disruptions yet, pressure continues. The president of the Port Workers Front Julio Castillo was arrested on 1/21 for disorderly conduct.  Fruit officials and port officials met with him prior to the arrest. Containers are difficult, putting pressure on all exporters. The other open ports where our break bulk ships are loading are getting more pressure to strike as well as pressure to receive other container lines.

The image shows four of seven ships anchored outside of San Antonio waiting to be loaded.
