Day in the life… of Mitchell Bell, Warehouse Supervisor

Mitchell was born and raised in Truro, Nova Scotia and moved to Calgary, Alberta in 2007. His produce experience began at Superstore (Loblaw’s) where he worked for three years as a produce clerk and produce supervisor. He went on to work in warehouse at SCM, which handles all of Walmart’s goods, for two years and eventually transitioned to Oppy.

Originally hired through a temporary labor agency, Mitchell has officially been with Oppy for two years. Promoted to warehouse supervisor in November 2016, he manages a crew of six and works closely with the QC, repack, sales and transportation departments. A typical day is ensuring trucks are loaded with the correct freight while honoring arrival times. Mitchell says work in the warehouse can be quite overwhelming with volume but he enjoys the hustle of the business.

Formerly operating out of a trucking company’s facility, Mitchell’s favorite project was being part of the big move to the current Calgary office. He enjoyed seeing the whole operation transition in only two days and in turn, how fast the business has grown since.

While visiting home in Nova Scotia for vacation a few years ago, Mitchell met his girlfriend Meaghan. They settled in Calgary together with their little family – a dog named Max and a cat named Kitty. They both enjoy going on road trips, camping and being outdoors. Mitchell likes to fish in the summer months and is really looking forward to this year’s adventures.

Mitchell aspires to continue growing in warehousing and logistics and to pursue new management roles and opportunities.
