In a first for the Oppy citrus category — Israeli Suntina's (also known as Novas) have made an appearance in Ontario and across the Canadian prairie provinces to Calgary.
The program kicked off early in the new year with 2 lb bags and regular 10 kg bulk boxes.
The feedback to the flavor and appearance has been very positive and augurs well for an expanded program in 2015.
With brix ratios of 15+ these particular Clementines are exceedingly sweet!

All apples in Washington state are experiencing poor packouts due to the heat last August. Many Gala packers are reporting 15 boxes of apples per bin, so we are actually faring better at 15-18 packs per bin at Crane and McDougall.

We're anticipating the arrival of these sweet, petite pears from New Zealand week 10. We'll offer both a 10-kg volume fill and 10 x 1-kg flow wrap punnets. Honey Belles arrive crunchy and deliciously ready to eat.

Week two of the Oppy California strawberry program is underway. These irresistibly sweet berries are available in 8 x 1-lb., 4 x 2-lb., 2 x 4-lb., and 4 x 3-lb. configurations.
We are hearing that water shortages are affecting 75% of the mango growing areas in Peru. This will lead to lower overall volumes out of Peru and the small sizes (12/14s), will be especially short. We anticipate pricing to be $6 and higher for the season. Weekly promotional opportunities are unlikely.

Picking starts at La Higuera on Monday. We expect our first arrivals of these gorgeous grapes toward the end of the month. The grower is reporting outstanding quality and size (80% large and extra-large).
First arrivals of Saturn white fleshed peaches into Miami show excellent color. 2 layer 5 kg boxes, PLU 3113. Saturn peaches feature a thin skin and a freestone pit, and are a sweeter-eating, less fuzzy variety than most. No need to peel, just dig in! Expect more arrivals over the next few weeks.

Following the discovery of the European grapevine moth, the USDA/PPQ created a federal order that ultimately put a halt to all vessel fruit out of three of the largest berry growing regions in Chile (about 80% total volumes to the U.S.). The federal order mandates that all blueberries grown in regions 6, 7, and 8 be fumigated before export to the U.S. Any fruit from other growing regions is subject to strenuous inspections both upon shipping and arrival, so delays are expected.
