Overview
Work Model: Hybrid (3-days In-Office, 2-days WFH Flex) | Status: Permanent, Full-Time, Exempt
The Senior Business Development Representative – Transport is responsible for generating new business through third-party transportation sales by capitalizing on identified market opportunities and executing on sales strategies. Proactively maintains a strong communication network and cultivates collaborative relationships with all stakeholders, while maintaining a superior customer-service orientation that upholds the standards of the Oppy brand and culture.
Accountabilities
- Makes phone calls with prospective clients to establish relationships and build your book of business from the ground up.
- Generates business through independently growing account lines and soliciting new customers.
- Develops effective sales strategies by gathering market intel and capitalizing on opportunities; identifies and reports on market trends, including pricing and innovations.
- Fosters strong, lasting customer relationships by anticipating their requirements and delivering on needs in a professional and proactive manner.
- Prepares sales presentations and persuasively engages with current and prospective customers.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of customer data, quotes and transactions as required in company systems.
- Assists transport team members with servicing new accounts as needed; maintains a positive team-oriented outlook.
- Participates in promoting a customer-focused, cooperative, team-oriented culture in alignment with the company’s core values.
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of government regulations and industry standards, including FSCMA, US DOT, Hours of Operation, C-TPAT, FSMA, food safety, security, traceability, and product labeling.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Required Knowledge & Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills, supervisory experience and a strong teamwork orientation; proven ability to cultivate a positive, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to manage effectively during periods of high pressure and volatility; proven ability to successfully manage conflict.
- Knowledge of the concepts, methods, standards and practices of transportation and the product supply chain in the produce industry.
- Ability to work independently, make appropriate decisions, and liaise proactively with appropriate parties.
- Well organized, flexible, proactive, detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
- Maintains thorough understanding of PACA laws, Product Bluebook transportation best practices and other industry regulations.
- Knowledge of the relevant computer systems, network and telecommunications technology, applications, tools and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Degree, diploma in business with a focus on sales and marketing; specific training in agribusiness or related industry courses is an asset.
- Minimum, 3 – 5 years of successful, proven, and direct selling experience in the produce industry, specifically selling to major accounts preferred.
