Oppy raises $15K for kids
Having completed a five year, $125,000 pledge to raise funds for BC Women’s NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) the Vancouver team believed so deeply in the cause they decided to extend the commitment another 12 months. The office raised funds throughout the year—via a pumpkin sale, Halloween candy grams and a car wash—as well as the recent annual weeklong campaign.
The week brought back popular events such as bingo, paper airplane contest, bake sale, putting challenge and spin the wheel. “This year we added a non-beer pong game which was very well received and garnered some fierce competition among Myles, Roberto and Jessica,” said Victoria Vancek, reception services supervisor and fundraising committee lead. Ultimately Roberto Rodriguez, IT support technician, and Jessica Phillips, HR administrative assistant, emerged victorious with 77 points and 66 points respectively. Non-beer pong was the brain child of Receptionist Laura LaTorre who even loaned her table to make it possible.
“I am always very impressed with how people open their hearts and their wallets to support the community and those in need. Our team has once again stepped up and we are very proud of the ongoing support of the hospital that Oppy people continue to provide year over year,” said Doug Galloway, vice president of human resources.
Kudos to the fundraising committee, all the departments that donated baskets for the raffle, Accounting Assistant Kenneth He for capturing the moments with his camera throughout the week, John Anderson and Doug Galloway for supporting this initiative and all those who got involved and gave generously to an important cause raising $15,215! We look forward to the happenings of next year!
