Oppy takes the 10 for Talent Challenge

It was the first Friday afternoon of summer, so why not celebrate with colleagues and raise a few bucks for a great cause? So thought the team at Oppy, a long-standing supporter of PMA’s Foundation for Industry Talent, now known as Center for Growing Talent by PMA.

All around Oppy, the leading fresh produce sales, marketing and distribution company, people are taking CGTbyPMA’s 10 for Talent Challenge. The challenge recognizes CGTbyPMA’s 10-year anniversary by soliciting $10 donations from across the fresh produce and floral industries to support its mission to attract, develop, and retain industry talent.

Oppy is responding to the 10 for Talent Challenge via individual contributions, as well as a group effort. Team member donations were engaged during events throughout the organization, with offices decked out in the campaign’s “orange” theme and complete with interactive fun ranging from swinging at a bright orange piñata filled with goodies in Vancouver to a team lunch in Nogales to a raffle in Newark, Del. As well, the company’s LA office held “Oppy Orange Olympics,” in which teams vied for points in the orange toss, puzzle-mania, guess the number of jelly beans, guess the amount of money in the jar, and an exciting bike obstacle course.

“We’re having a lot of fun supporting the 10 for Talent Challenge because we have great respect and appreciation for the achievements of CTGbyPMA over the last decade,” said John Anderson, Oppy’s chairman president and CEO. “Its efforts position our industry for success by guiding bright young talent toward opportunities in our companies, while also providing excellent leadership development for industry professionals at various points in their careers.”

Anderson has been actively involved with CGTbyPMA since it was founded in 2006, serving for eight years on its Board of Directors and two years as the board’s chairman. As well, Oppy pledged $150,000 to support the center’s work in honor of the company’s 150th anniversary in 2008.

Oppy has also recruited young professionals from CGTbyPMA’s Career Pathways program, which was inspired by CGTbyPMA to elevate its internship offerings, and has actively supported numerous Women’s Fresh Perspectives events. As well, Oppy staff has participated in the CGTbyPMA’s Emerging Leaders Program and Executive Leadership Symposium.

“We’re proud to support the CGTbyPMA and encourage our peers in the industry to explore the many opportunities it offers,” Anderson said. “And if you have $10 burning a hole in your pocket, we hope you’ll join us by taking the 10 for Talent Challenge to show your support of this excellent industry resource.”
