In mid-September Roger Aguirre, director of apples and pears, and Chris Ford, organic category manager, visited Envy and JAZZ apples at Jones Farms with the Allan Brothers team (see the video here). More recently Rachel Medhi, organic category manager, and Jeff Fairchild from New Seasons Markets visited the same spot to look at the development since that time. Growing beautifully, you can expect to see freshly picked Washington crop in stores within the next week or two. See the video of their recent trip below.

Small, round, deep-blue berry with a five-pointed star at the stem end. Skin typically appears naturally 'frosted' or 'dusted'. Standard size is about 3/8" (1 cm) in diameter. 'Super Blues' are two or three times larger.

Mild sweet flavor with a little tang. Small interior seeds crunch lightly.

Crane Family Orchards

George Crane planted his first apple trees in 1912. With its sloped hills for easy air movement, and the warm days and cool evenings that coax out the best apple color, Brewster, a small town in Eastern Washington, proved just the right spot for growing. Today, Crane Family Orchards spans about 1,000 acres, and is run by Rachel Crane, George’s great-great granddaughter.
