Overview

Contract Term: 12-Months

Reporting to the Supervisor, Financial Reporting, the Financial Reporting Specialist performs a broad range of financial analysis, including the preparation of financial reports in accordance with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Partnering with key business stakeholders, the position will provide information and reports used to drive business decisions, determine priorities and support the executive leadership team in achieving the company’s strategic goals.

Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with team members to prepare timely and accurate monthly reporting packages and other information as required by one of the company’s significant shareholders, a US public-company, Dole plc.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly supporting schedules for the consolidated financial statements in accordance with ASPE, US GAAP and IFRS for various financial statement areas.
  • Liaise with key contacts from Dole plc entities to reconcile and confirm group intercompany balances monthly.
  • Prepare consolidated quarterly supporting schedules that articulate financial operating results, key trends and variances (measuring financial results against budget and forecast) for the key stakeholders including the Executive team, key shareholders and the Board of Directors.
  • Assist with preparing schedules for the consolidated budget and forecasts.
  • Provide support to external and internal auditors.
  • Complete surveys as required by Statistics Canada and the US Census Bureau.
  • Work with the accounting and finance team to ensure financial statements are in compliance with established accounting practices, Sarbanes-Oxley (“SOX”), company policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional ad hoc duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience in consolidated reporting and supporting schedules.
  • Detail oriented and organized with a proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, handling multiple tasks and projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply intellectual rigor and critical thinking to technical financial reporting issues, to consider and document different financial reporting alternatives, to challenge different positions constructively and make well-supported recommendations
  • Self-starter with a high degree of initiative and ability to work independently, make appropriate decisions and effectively communicate information, both orally and written to appropriate parties.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication (written & verbal) and customer service skills; ability to work effectively with multiple departments and forge strong relationships within the Financial Reporting team and all other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable ethics, integrity, and trust in all their activities, consistently maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Positive and engaging attitude, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and fun working environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business or related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum, 1 – 2 years’ experience in a corporate accounting environment.
  • In the process of pursuing a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • Experience with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) required; experience with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) considered an asset.
  • Experience with Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) considered an asset.
