The Opportunity

Are you a results-driven accounting professional with a passion for leadership and fostering a collaborative approach? We are seeking a skilled, team-oriented Corporate Accounting Manager to join our team. In this role, you will oversee corporate accounting and audit processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards. You’ll have the opportunity to develop a dedicated accounting team while working closely with internal and external stakeholders to achieve key business goals.

You will be responsible for managing monthly financial reports, overseeing audits, ensuring tax compliance, and supporting continuous improvements to accounting processes. We are seeking a candidate with strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build effective relationships across various teams.

Please Note: In-office attendance is required for the first 6-months of training and the position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule following the training period depending on team needs.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of financial information for each corporate legal entity, ensuring compliance with ASPE standards. Prepare, review, and present monthly financial reports to executive management.
  • Lead and manage the corporate accounting team and monthly and year-end financial close processes, ensuring deliverables are met while fostering a collaborative, positive, and proactive team environment.
  • Support the Director of Corporate Accounting & Finance in maintaining strong internal controls and documentation in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley (“SOX”), including assistance with annual audits.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve internal controls over the financial statement close process, acting as the control owner to ensure operational efficiency and accuracy.
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, financial analysis, and statements to ensure they meet accuracy and completeness standards.
  • Provide valuable insights on financial transactions, accounting treatments, and process improvements to enhance overall financial operations.
  • Coordinate and manage internal and external audits, ensuring a smooth process and timely responses to audit requests and inquiries.
  • Oversee share repurchase calculations, accounting entries, and payments, ensuring accuracy in tax slip preparation.
  • Ensure tax filings and accounting entries are aligned with established accounting practices, company policies, and applicable legislative requirements.
  • Oversee correspondence with external tax advisors to provide information for preparing Canadian and US federal and provincial/state tax returns, year-end tax provisions, and transfer pricing studies. Ensure timely and accurate submission of tax returns and installments.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to maintain the chart of accounts and optimize ERP/accounting processes, ensuring alignment with business needs and reporting standards.
  • Review and approve cheques, wires, and EFT payments in accordance with company policies and internal controls, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Lead or participate in financial accounting projects, ensuring deliverables are met according to project requirements and deadlines.
  • Establish internal deadlines and allocate workload among accounting team members, providing troubleshooting support and feedback to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Mentor and develop accounting team members, conducting performance reviews, providing guidance, and supporting professional growth.
  • Promote a customer-focused culture, aligned with the company’s core values, to enhance the overall experience for both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Solid knowledge of Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) in Canada, preferably with experience in tax compliance in Canada and/or US, inter-company transactions, and foreign exchange.
  • Experience working in a SOX-compliant environment is a plus,
  • Advanced Excel skills, with a talent for working with large data sets, creating reports, and leveraging data to inform strategic decisions and drive improvements.

Required Qualifications

  • A CPA designation preferred with 3 to 5 years post qualification experience. Preference for candidates with public accounting experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in an accounting team environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership role, specifically with financial statement preparation, financial close processes under tight deadlines, statutory reporting, account reconciliations and supporting external/internal auditors.
