Growing up on the east coast and now residing on the west coast of Canada, Matt was born in Montreal, grew up in Toronto and now calls Vancouver home. Initially thinking he would want to work in the props department of theatre production, he switched gears at Toronto Film School to graduate with a diploma in film and television specializing in directing and editing. While that didn’t feel entirely right either he took one more swing at it and went after a diploma in graphic design specializing in branding and corporate identities.
After working in industries from hospitality to television production and freelance, Matt was hired at Oppy a year and a half ago. “There is nothing regular about the work we do as a marketing team at Oppy,” he says, “a typical day can range from developing brand identities for our new or existing growers to taking beauty shots of our produce to filming a new video for social media.” Of the many projects the marketing department gets up to, Matt’s favorite is branding growers and helping them build a new look.
A newlywed to his wife Dawn, Matt creates weekly vlogs (video blogs) that follows their lives with their dog Bear. He says it’s something he does to stay creative in his downtime and get to know other people in the YouTube community. He actually developed a vlog on how he put the Oscars video together for Oppy… you can learn more about why this video was created, see Matt’s vlog and the finished product .
Matt hopes to grow video production in the marketing department at Oppy and continue helping the team produce great design. “Oppy is a company that really cares about what its employees have to say and that mutual respect is something that is very difficult to find in today’s workplace,” he sums up.
