After John joined us as a warehouseman, he moved rapidly through sales and operations roles into executive level management, contributing ideas that shaped the future performance of the organization. By forging strong international relationships that assured uninterrupted supplies of preferred produce items, and channeling resources into logistics and technology, John’s efforts have set Oppy apart as a leader. And through his dedication to strategic growth and guidance of our expect the world from us culture, we’ve stayed that way.
Meanwhile, John has led numerous key industry initiatives, from streamlining international trade to recruiting the best young talent to the produce community. His work on industry boards and committees has earned him a reputation for leadership and insight well beyond the Oppy network.
John’s contributions to the produce industry and general business community have led to numerous professional awards. Most recently, he was named Ernst & Young’s 2015 “Entrepreneur of the Year” not only for the food and beverage category but for the Pacific Region overall. In 2012, John became the first and only Canadian to be honored as The Packer’s “Produce Marketer of the Year,” and named in 2013 as a “Dealmaker of the Year” by the BC Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (AGC). In 2014, Mr. Anderson was chosen to receive the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Chilean & American Chamber of Commerce, recognized by Senator and Lieutenant Governor-elect Mike Stack as a person who has made a difference to the well-being of the people living and working in the state of Pennsylvania. Shortly afterward, he was also honored with a “BC CEO Award” in the major private company category.
Under John’s leadership, Oppy has been designated among Canada’s Best Managed Companies for 15 years running, and was recognized by Waterstone Human Capital for having one of Canada's 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures in 2016.

Based in Los Angeles, California, David leads the execution of Oppy’s integrated sales strategy, dedicating his expertise to assure consistency between our growers’ programs and the demands of the North American marketplace.
David came to Oppy in 1989. He has held various sales positions during his tenure, helping build our business in the Southwestern U.S. and with national accounts, while also solidifying our position as a greenhouse marketing leader, among other grower-focused initiatives. He was appointed vice president, sales and categories in 2006, and further promoted to senior vice president, North American sales and categories in 2012. David became executive vice president and chief marketing officer in 2014.
David holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agri-Business with a minor in Agri-Marketing, from California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo, and earned his MBA from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa.

Doug joined The Oppenheimer Group in 1995 as director of information technology after spending 12 years in IT at the British Columbia Automobile Association. He was appointed as Oppy’s chief information officer in 2003, and promoted to vice president and chief operations officer in 2006. He has since taken on executive responsibility for information technology, operations, quality control, manufacturing, transportation, supply chain management, food safety and grower relations, while having oversight responsibility for our Santiago, Chile office.
Doug is co-chair of the PTI (Produce Traceability Initiative) Leadership and Executive Council and sits on the Center for Produce Safety Board of Directors and the PMA (Produce Marketing Association) Board of Directors. As well, he has authored numerous white papers on key topics facing our industry. Doug is a past recipient of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association’s “Produce Man of the Year” award, and was featured among the 2012 Packer 25 industry leaders.
- Executive ManagementVice President of Canadian & West Coast U.S. Sales
While overseeing all Canadian and Western U.S. sales initiatives, Walt also directs our citrus category in Canada, concentrating on mandarin oranges grown in Japan, Korea and China.
Walt was a produce buyer for Woodwards Stores in Vancouver, B.C. for ten years before joining Oppy to sell California-grown produce to our customers throughout Western Canada in 1987. Walt's marketing role grew and he added New Zealand pipfruit, kiwifruit and other imported and domestic produce to his portfolio. Walt was promoted to sales manager in 1997, and opened our Calgary, AB sales office four years later. He was instrumental in bringing the first Japanese square watermelon to Canada in 2002.
Walt has served as chairman of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA). He also is the past president and former director of the British Columbia Produce Marketing Association (BCPMA). In 2016, Walt became the face of Oppy on social media, hosting popular monthly episodes of “What’s Fresh at Oppy?” which showcase our current offerings and encourages fresh produce consumption.

Doug has 30 years of experience in human resources with a background in the transportation, retail and healthcare sectors. Before joining Oppy in 2012, he was regional human resources manager for Home Depot Canada. This depth of knowledge in operations management helps ensure Oppy’s HR team is able to support our diverse needs. Doug holds an MBA-Human Resources from Royal Roads University, is a certified executive coach and professional certified coach, and holds his CPHR designation from the BC Human Resources Management Association. While completing his MBA, Doug was honored by Royal Roads University and received the class Leadership Award and the Founders Award for leadership, sustainability and personal development. Doug is currently working towards his Masters Certified Coaching designation.

Kiran Rao leads the team that implements all of Oppy’s financial management processes.
Kiran joined us in September, 2016, bringing more than 20 years of financial management experience with public and international companies to his role. Most recently, he was the chief financial officer at Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, where he held executive and management level positions for over a decade.
Kiran’s earlier experience includes financial management roles with mail, express and logistics giant TNT NV in the Netherlands and U.S., where he was a business controller for the logistics division and led the financial integration of a newly acquired freight management subsidiary’s North and South American operations.
Kiran is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant and holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Warren oversees all of our information technology, including in-house software development, technical services, hardware and communication networks. He has been a key player in re-engineering our internal software systems, as a database administrator, and overseeing the core server technologies that operate our business. He was promoted to the role of projects and systems architecture manager and became our director of information systems in 2006.
Warren recently designed the architecture for the next generation of our in-house software systems, ensuring Oppy stays on the leading edge of information technology.

As vice president of marketing for Oppy, James oversees the company’s cohesive marketing platform. James leads the team responsible for brand and product development initiatives, marketing communications strategies, and the translation of category analysis insights into effective sales tools―among other enterprises. He also manages the outside sales force dedicated to promoting the company’s full product range with these resources in hand.
James lends his passion and marketing expertise to many facets Oppy’s business. Over the years, he has either led or facilitated the strategy for virtually every category at Oppy. By forging strong relationships with international growers and drawing on his in-depth understanding of the North American retail landscape, James drives sustainable business for these items, and more.
Throughout his career, James has brought new energy into Oppy’s product portfolio, while adding value to partner brands. He was pivotal in the introduction of ENZA Braeburn and Pacific Rose apples to North America in the mid-1990s, setting the stage for highly-popular JAZZ apple’s later launch. Zespri® gold kiwifruit, Amorosa tomatoes and other items have benefitted from James’ expertise as they were introduced over the years.
From Wellington, New Zealand, James has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration degree from Victoria University.

Based in Vancouver, B.C., David manages all aspects of Oppenheimer’s apple and pear category, along with our cherry procurement and marketing programs. As well, he oversees exports for all products originating in North America. David's career in produce began in 1993 at the New Zealand Apple and Pear Marketing Board. He became West Coast marketing manager for ENZA International in Seattle, Washington in 1995, and was instrumental in building demand for the New Zealand Braeburn apple in North America.
In 1997, David became ENZA's Singapore-based marketing manager for Northeast Asia. He took on his current role at Oppy in early 2001, focusing on introducing ENZA JAZZ™ and Envy™ apples to the North American market, and establishing a foothold for Washington-grown Pacific Rose™ in Asia.
David was honored as one of Produce Business Magazine’s “40 Under 40” in 2008. He holds a Bachelor's degree with honors in international management and marketing from Waikato University in Hamilton, New Zealand.

Steve oversees our kiwifruit, mango, pineapple, avocado and citrus procurement and marketing initiatives.
He joined Oppy in 2000, after ten years in management positions with Zespri International Ltd. Residing in New Zealand, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Steve developed and managed Zespri kiwifruit sales and marketing activities for Asia and was instrumental in the introduction of gold kiwifruit both there and in North America. In 2002, Steve began managing Oppy’s mango category, and added pineapples to his area of focus in 2012, to round out his leadership of a broader tropicals category.
Over the last decade and a half, Steve has contributed significantly to the growth pattern for New Zealand kiwifruit in North America, and helped build Zespri into one of the most trusted produce brands in the trade. As well, he has further entrenched Oppy’s position as a kiwifruit marketer with high quality programs from the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.
Steve is from New Zealand and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in marketing and international business from Auckland University.

Eric became Oppy's executive director, South American Imports, in July 2016. He works closely with our executive category directors responsible for berries, grapes, stone fruit, apples, pears, kiwifruit, mangoes and citrus, as well as the sales team, grower relations staff and grower partners to ensure Oppy secures a comprehensive and continuous supply of fresh produce for customers across North America.Eric served as West Coast director of sales from April 2012 to July 2016. In this role, he guided Western U.S. sales initiatives, overseeing our Houston, Texas, Chino Hills and Visalia, California and Nogales, Arizona offices. Between 2004 and 2012, Eric was the sales manager for Oppy's Chino Hills office, following seven years as a sales representative. In that time, Eric also provided strategic leadership to our greenhouse, stone fruit and apple and pear categories in the Western U.S., while also building partnerships with key retail accounts.

Chris is a Chartered Accountant who joined the Oppenheimer team in November 2011 as director of finance. He was promoted to executive director of finance in 2015 and became executive director, sales and operations finance, in September 2017.
In this role, Chris provides financial leadership to Oppy sales, categories and operations by providing strategic analysis and evaluating financial decisions related to these key areas of the company. He leads our category financial analysis team, ensuring that appropriate structure and procedures are in place to support category planning, decision making and effective execution of category operations.
Chris also plays a key role in financial interactions with our growers and other business partners.
Prior to working at Oppy, Chris was an audit manager at Ernst & Young, where he specialized in multi-location and complex Canadian GAAP accounting environments by leading the global coordination of teams of accountants, reviewing internal client processes, while recommending improvements to increase client efficiencies. Chris also worked as the corporate controller for Silver Bull Resources, where he coordinated multi-national teams with locations in Mexico and Africa, while overseeing technical accounting issues and preparing consolidation workbooks.
Chris received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, and his Chartered Accountant certification from the Institute of Chartered Accounts of British Columbia.

Brett became Oppy’s general manager, East Coast in September 2013, a promotion that combined his role of director of sales with oversight of East Coast operations. Brett provides effective leadership and support to our eastern U.S. sales team, which operates from offices in Newark, Delaware; Tampa, Florida and Chicago, unifying their efforts to optimize service. Brett joined Oppy in August 2011, following a decade and a half with C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc., Eden Prairie, Minn., where he gained experience in various sales and management roles within the produce, supply chain, and logistics disciplines.
Brett represents Oppy on the Produce for Better Health Foundation's board of trustees and executive committee, and is a member of the Produce Marketing Association Fresh Summit committee.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature from the University of Missouri.
- Management GroupExecutive Category Director, Greenhouse & Vegetables
Aaron guides our dynamic greenhouse category, consisting of conventionally grown tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, as well as organic tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers from Canada and Mexico. He also oversees our field vegetable programs. He has played an instrumental role in building and sustaining the remarkable success of the Divemex Fair Trade Certified peppers program in the North American market, and has helped establish new product lines for greenhouse partner SunSelect over the years.
Aaron joined our company as greenhouse category director in 2008, bringing eight years of experience gained at BC Hot House Foods Inc. to his new role. He added other vegetables to his area of responsibility in 2012. Aaron has also worked for Nestlé Canada of Delta, B.C., and Kraft Canada of Burnaby, B.C.
Aaron studied business administration at Simon Fraser University and holds a marketing management diploma from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
- Management GroupGeneral Manager, Chile
Ray manages the day-to-day operations of Oppenheimer Chilé Limitada, our South American procurement and exporting office in Santiago.
Ray has nearly three decades of produce sales, marketing and quality control experience, having worked for Jac. Vandenberg Inc. in Yonkers, New York, and Produce Services of America Inc. in both Gloucester City, New Jersey, and in San Diego, California. He was also an owner/partner of Plum Krazy Ranch, a family-owned plum and olive grower, packer-shipper in Woodlake, California. Ray came to Oppy in late 2002 as a sales representative in our Los Angeles office. He moved to Santiago in late 2003 to take on the role of office manager, overseeing our South American supply lines.
Ray holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agri-business from Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo.
- Management GroupExecutive Supply Chain Director
Steve is responsible for assuring and improving logistics efficiencies throughout our supply chain by guiding the efforts of Oppy’s operations, quality control, transportation and inventory teams. Having started in our IT department in 1996, Steve gained highly relevant expertise on the company’s enterprise system and insight to our supply chain. In 2006, he was promoted to manager of systems development where he was responsible for all in-house systems, before becoming corporate supply chain manager. In 2011, Steve became Oppy’s first director of supply chain, operations and QC.
Steve oversees sustainability initiatives at Oppy, leading the committee dedicated to identifying and implementing strategies that reduce waste and conserve resources in key areas of our business.
Active on several industry committees, Steve is co-chair of the Produce Traceability Initiative, a member of the CPMA Industry Technology Advisory Council, and the PMA Technology Council, a director of ProduceSupply.org, and a contributor to Blueprints: The Produce Professionals' Quarterly Journal.
Steve received his diploma in computer and information systems from BCIT, and completed his MBA in 2016.
- Management GroupCategory Director, Tropicals
Fernando oversees procurement and marketing strategies for Oppy’s tropicals category, which includes kiwifruit, mangoes and pineapple. He was promoted to this role in 2016, following two years as West Coast tropicals category manager.
After graduating with a degree in Agriculture Business Management from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Fernando joined Oppy in 1989, working in sales, QC, supply chain and operations before becoming grower relations manager in 2003. From 2005 through 2014, Fernando served as North America quality control and operations manager. Over the years, Fernando contributed significantly to our Mexican grape, and California grape and greenhouse business, while gaining multi-faceted expertise across all Oppy items.

As director of category development, Jason seeks opportunities for growth within all Oppy product categories, while leading the company’s business analysis initiatives and key account management process. Constantly reviewing our portfolio alongside the demands of the market, Jason investigates and recommends new source countries, product lines, varieties, growing disciplines―like Fair Trade Certification―to our category and executive teams. Jason also provides strategic oversight to our emerging berry category.
Jason joined Oppy in 2009 as a category analyst, and was quickly elevated to the role of business analysis team manager. In 2011, Jason was named marketing manager, overseeing the analytical and creative ingredients of the Oppy go-to-market strategy. Two years later, he was promoted to manager, category development, and in 2014 he began his current role.
Jason was honored as one of Produce Business Magazine's 40 Under 40 in 2016. He is a graduate of the Produce Marketing Association’s 2010 Emerging Leaders program, where he was elected by his classmates to represent them on the board of a major agricultural organization. More recently, Jason attended PMA’s High Performance Managers conference.
Jason holds a diploma in marketing from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, a BA in economics from the University of Victoria and a MA in Economics from the University of British Columbia.

Barbara is responsible for coordinating an efficient organization of people and resources to support Oppy. She ensures there are the proper business systems, procedures and organizational structure in place to maintain the stability, profitability and growth of the company. Based in the Visalia, California office, she provides leadership to the accounting and finance team and ensures support to all the business units throughout Oppy.
Joining the company in 1986, Barbara worked in what was then the import/export department, focusing on Chilean fruit imports. She employed her bilingual skills to support the business expansion from Mexico and other South American countries. Later, Barbara transitioned to the accounting and finance department, becoming business administration manager of the Visalia office. In 2006 she was appointed to the position of corporate business administration manager.
Barbara provides the managerial and administrative expertise that has supported the company to profitably double in size and scope. With a focus on planning and implementation, she has been a contributing member of the strategic planning committee for over a decade.
Barbara received her university degree at St. Michael’s College in Vermont, and her Masters of International Management degree from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix, Arizona.

Bill’s experience spans more than three decades at Oppenheimer. After many years as a salesperson and key account manager, he was appointed to the role of director of import grapes and stone fruit in April 2012, overseeing our procurement and marketing of fruit from Chile, Brazil and Peru. He also leads the sales efforts of our Newark, Delaware team, a position he was promoted to in 2005. Over the years, Bill has played a pivotal role in building our apple, pear, grape, and stone fruit business in the Eastern U.S.

Steve Young has overseen Oppy sales across Canada since August 2016. Steve guides the strategy executed by our team of sales professionals serving customers throughout Canada via offices in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto.
Following four years as an account manager at Sunkist Growers, Steve joined Oppy as a Vancouver-based sales representative in Vancouver in 2008, adding the responsibility of Canadian citrus deal manager shortly afterward. In 2012, he was promoted to sales manager of our Calgary office, engaging a wider range of customers and overseeing sales while supporting the expansion of our warehouse operations. In 2016, he returned to Vancouver in his current role.
Active in the industry, Steve served as a BCPMA director from 2010-12, Calgary PMA director from 2012-15, and is currently a director for the Canadian Produce Marketing Association. Steve was the chairman of the 2016 CPMA convention in Calgary.
Steve participated in the 2013 Produce Marketing Association Emerging Leaders Program, and served as a mentor in the PMA Career Pathways program since 2014.
Steve was honored to receive the CPMA’s Mary Fitzgerald Award, which recognizes outstanding young industry leaders, in 2014.
He is currently completing a marketing degree at Athabasca University.
